Dr. K S Arul Selvan is Director of the School of Journalism and New Media Studies, IGNOU. Currently he is the Programme Coordinator for the School’s research degrees. Besides that he is developing an Appreciation Programme in Media and Information Literacy. This programme is going to be primarily for the new entrants to IGNOU’s undergraduate learners as well as a standalone for the general audience. He was part of UNESCO’s MIL South Asia training workshop (2010). In 2014 he was closely associated with the establishment of MILUNI (Media and Information Literacy University Network of India) which is affiliated with the GAPMIL of UNESCO. He has 13 years of academic experience with the Indian University based media education system. Prior to that he was associated with the BBC World Service Trust’s South Asian Online Journalism programme (2004-06) as a trainer, mentor and project coordinator. Besides that he was an Indian investigator (2006) for the International Federation of Journalists’ six country research programme on HIV/AIDS reporting. He is the recipient of Summer Doctoral Fellowship (2003) from Oxford Internet Institute of University of Oxford.
