Prof Manjulika Srivastava is amongst the few Indians to have done a doctorate in the area of Open and Distance Education, in the discipline of Education. She has done her graduation, post-graduation and M.Phil. in Liberal Arts from University of Delhi. She has been working with IGNOU since 1989. Currently she is the Director of Centre for Internal Quality Assurance (formerly IQAC) since April 2017- onwards). Prior to that she has also served as Director Defence Unit (July 2017 – October 2019); Academic Coordination Division (November 2015 - April 2017); Director Campus Placement (July 2012- June 2013); and Director, Distance Education Council (2008 to 2010).
She was appointed as Professor of Distance Education at Distance Education Council (April 2006) under IGNOU, and subsequently Distance Education Bureau (DEB) under University Grants Commission, which is the apex body for Open and Distance Learning (ODL) system in the country. Since August 2014 she has been placed as a Professor of Distance Education at the Staff Training and Research Institute of Distance Education of IGNOU.
She has done extensive research in the area of Distance Education and has published 6 books, around 70 articles and research papers mainly in the area of Distance Education both nationally and internationally. She has participated in national and international conferences and has visited all the major Open Universities of the world. She has coordinated the course design and delivery of programmes of the IGNOU. She has edited courses and written course material (units) for IGNOU and other OUs. She has conducted several staff development programmes for distance educators in universities all over India and also for UNESCO, UNDP and COL.
She is serving/has served on academic, research and management boards of several universities in the country, including IGNOU. She was awarded the Faculty Research fellowship for the year 2002, by the Shastri Indo- Canadian Institute and was attached to Athabasca University, Canada’s Open University. She was also awarded the AAOU Staff Exchange Fellowship by Korea National Open University for the year 2004.
She was sponsored by Commonwealth Educational Media Centre of Asia (CEMCA) from 17-21 March, 2014 to visit Open University Malaysia, Wawasan Open University and Malaysian Qualifications Agency. She also served as a consultant for CEMCA- COL for a project from Feb- March 2015. She has been nominated by the IGNOU to consolidate views of Stakeholders and prepare the Recommendations on “ODL and Online Courses” for the New Education Policy for the Ministry of Human Resource Development (August – December, 2015).
She was nominated to the National Task Force in 2018 to develop the Scheme for Assessment & Accreditation of ODL institutions for NAAC (Open Universities and Directorates of Distance Education under Dual -Mode Universities) which has been launched in 2019. She was also nominated in 2020 to a committee to frame the draft Regulations for the newly set up Jagat Guru Nanak Dev Punjab State Open University.
As the Director Centre for Internal Quality Assurance, she played a central role in the accreditation process of the University by NAAC. The University obtained A++ grading by NAAC in January 2021.
