Dr Kanan Sharma joined Indira Gandhi National Open University as Asstt Regional Director in 1996.She has a brilliant academic career. Gold Medalist, University position holder, National Merit Scholarship holder, she did her M.A., M.Phil., PhD. from Delhi University. The papers she has published and presented on Sanskrit Literature and on Distance Education in National and international forums have been recognized by renowned experts in the field. Her book titled ‘Ras Siddhanta Ki Darshanik Mimansa‘ acclaimed high appreciation from eminent scholars and literary figures.

Before joining IGNOU, she was teaching at Delhi University. She has worked with All India Radio and had long association with the National Network of Doordarshan, in connection with Literary Programmes, Documentaries, Interaction with renowned and eminent personalities of world fame in the field of Literature, Art and Culture. She has been a regular writer for renowned literary magazines and National Dailies.

For more than last two decades she is managing Student Support Services at different Regional Centres, North East Project (Planning and Development Division), IGNOU City Centre and at the Regional Services Division. 

She prepared the Support Services related Audio Material independently, which was highly appreciated by the Learners, prospective learners and other visitors visiting the Regional Centre. She initiated and contributed for the preparation of the video material for Student Support services in coordination with the Electronic Media Production Centre of the University.

She was productively involved in the design and development of course material for the EEBB Centres. She was one of the two coordinators for the development of the Awareness Programme in Hindi and contributed extensively for the same.

Throughout this duration she has been extensively involved in strengthening the Student Support Services.
