Prof (Ms.) Sumitra Kukreti

Prof. Sumitra Kukreti is an academic with teaching career spanning more than three decades. She holds M.Ed. and D.Litt. in English from Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Rohilkhand University, Bareilly and M.Phil. and Ph.D. from HNB Garhwal University, Srinagar, Garhwal. Her research interests include Twentieth Century Literature, ELT, Indian English Literature, Comparative Literature and Gender and Feminist Concerns.
Before joining IGNOU as Pro- Vice Chancellor, Prof. Sumitra Kukreti has taught in H.N.B. Garhwal University, Srinagar Garhwal, G. B. Pant University of Engineering and Technology, Pantnagar and Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Rohilkhand University, Bareilly. She was the Founder Head of the Department of English in MJP Rohilkhand University, Bareilly where she worked at various teaching and administrative capacities for over 25 years. In her previous organization, Prof. Kukreti served as the coordinator of Centre of Excellence for Women Studies, and as a member of NAAC Steering Committee, DSW Board, and Internal Quality Assessment Cell, amongst others. She was also the Convener for RDC and Board of Studies at the University for more than two decades; and is also a member of these committees at several other universities.
Prof. Kukreti is visitor’s nominee in Executive Council of HNB Garhwal University, Srinagar, Garhwal and an expert in various academic bodies of various Universities and State Public Service Commissions and other Government and other organizations.
Making meaningful contribution in academics, Prof. Kukreti has authored three books and over fifty research papers in journals of national and international repute. She has also supervised sixteen doctoral students, while four doctoral research works are still in progress under her supervision. Prof. Kukreti has 40 research papers in national/international seminars and conferences to her credit. As an effort to lead the academia, she has also conducted many national level seminars and workshops, completed a project awarded by UGC along with contributing as reviewer/ member editorial board of many prestigious journals.
