Dr. Shanmugam has been associated with IGNOU for the last 25 years at various capacities and worked at different states like Gujarat, Maharashtra, New Delhi, Kerala and Tamil Nadu. He has been instrumental in establishing IGNOU Regional Centre Madurai having its own building with state of art facilities.

 

Having doctorate in Statistics (Science), Dr. Shanmugam has published quite a few articles in National and International Journals. He has contributed the study material(study units) of IGNOU for the students of Bachelors Degree programme (AST-01) and Management Programme (MS-07 and MS-56). He has co-ordinated for the translation of IGNOU study material (BPP and CLP) in Tamil. His key areas of interest are Research Methodology, Management Information System, Distance Education and its Quality assurance.

 

Expansion of educational network to the rural and remote areas through community information centres in the North Eastern States of India, setting up the IGNOU printing unit at Coimbatore, training more than 2000 school teachers for disability studies in collaboration with SSA Tamil Nadu, training the teachers for the implementation of smart class rooms for Atomic Energy Education Society Schools, DoE Mumbai and development of regional need based academic programmes are some of his achievements.
