Dr. B R Ambedkar Chair on Social Change and Development was established in 23015 and it was housed in the School of Social Sciences
The objectives of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Chair on Social Change and Development are to disseminate the ideas and thoughts of Dr Ambedkar. This is achieved by organising academic programmes, seminars, workshops, lectures, films and courses, etc. directed towards achieving his goal of a society based on liberty, equality and fraternity. It also developed a Certificate Programme on Life and Thought of B.R. Ambedkar in collaboration with Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Foundation.
SEMINARS/PAINTINGS/WORKSHOPS
- On the occasion of the 124th Birth Anniversary Celebration of Bharat Ratna Baba Saheb Dr. B. R. Ambedkar on 13th April, 2015 a talk was delivered by Ramesh Chandra, Founder Director, Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Centre for Biomedical Research, University of Delhi, Former VC, Bundelkhand University.
- A seminar on “B.R Ambedkar and the History of Constitutionalizing India” was held on 9th April, 2015. Prof. Bidyut Chakrabarty, Department of Political Science, University of Delhi, New Delhi delivered the key-note address.
- On the occasion of 125th Birth Anniversary Celebration of Babasaheb Dr. B.R. Ambedkar three events were organised at Convention Centre IGNOU, New Delhi on April 9, 10, & 12, 2016. A Painting Competition and National Painting Workshop for Artists on April 9 & 10, 2016. It is innovative way to disseminate the ideas of Baba Saheb Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. Our Painting Competition and workshop are well received by artists and public at large. We received 132 participants for the painting competition and 25 artists in workshops from the different university and institutions.
- On April 12, 2016, a lecture on the topic Dr. B.R. Ambedkar on Education and Nation Building was delivered by Prof. R.K.Kale, Former Vice-Chancellor, Gujarat Central University. Prof. R.P. Mishra, Former Vice-Chancellor, Allahabad University and Prof. Nageshwar Rao, Vice-Chancellor, IGNOU also grace this occasion.
- The First Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Memorial Lecture on Dalit Movements At Crossroads delivered by Prof. Chinna Rao, Chairperson, CSDE, SSS, JNU, New Delhi on April 12, 2017.
- The Second Dr. Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Memorial Lecture on AMBEDKAR AND HIS GURUS delivered by Prof. Valerian Rodrigues ,Chair Professor, Ambedkar Chair, Ambedkar University, Delhi on April 20, 2018.
- The Third Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Memorial Lecture on “The Enlightened Project of B.R. Ambedkar” delivered by Prof. Raj Kumar, Head, Department of English, University of Delhi on 24th April 2019. It was chaired by Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Prof. Nageshwar Rao, IGNOU.
