The Public Information Unit (PIU) acts as a bridge between the University and its various stakeholders.
It is entrusted with providing information to learners and general public regarding programs of IGNOU including admissions, exams, new initiatives and other news & events through press coverage and advertisements.

Public Relations and Publicity
PIU ensures that IGNOU gets the media coverage across print, digital, & electronic mediums. It helps to maintain a positive image and enhance the visibility of the University by sharing important information on new developments with wider audience. PIU coordinates all the advertisements (Admission ads, Recruitment ads, Tender Notices, etc.,) and media related activities and works as one point contact for all the divisions and schools of IGNOU.

The Unit through the constant interaction with media outlets across platforms ensures that the existing and prospective learners get regular updates about academic programmes of the University, its unique pedagogy, admission procedures etc.,

DIGI News
The Unit designs and generates content for the digital newsletter disseminated to all the employees and other stake holders, viz., IGNOU DIGI NEWS, highlighting the major activities and events of the University including regional centers on daily basis. The Unit also chronicles all the events through photographs and maintains a photographic timeline of the University.

Social Media
Social Media channels of the University, i.e. Facebook (@OfficialPageIGNOU), Twitter (@OfficialIGNOU) and Instagram (@officialpageignou) are also maintained and populated with relevant content (related to events, live coverage of events, student’s related information etc.,) for dissemination to larger audience by PIU.

Special Reports
PIU puts together reports like Swachh Bharat, Voter Awareness Forum with inputs from Regional Centers.
PIU also monitors students' queries and concerns appearing in the press, or received through Facebook & Twitter and guides them to the concerned Schools and Divisions.
