Diaspora youth in Know India Programme at IGNOU

An interactive session with the Diaspora youth was held on 30 December 2011 at Convention Centre, IGNOU as a part of Know India Programme (KIP) of Ministry of Overseas Indian Affair, where participants from 17 countries, Vice Chancellor and faculty members of IGNOU participated. Prof. B.K. Pattanaik, Director, School of Extension and Development Studies, in his welcome address, highlighted about the contribution of Indian Diaspora to the development of India and also talked about the International Conference on Diaspora organized by IGNOU during 7-8 September 2011.

Shri. M.K. Pandey, Under Secretary, Diaspora Services, Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs, Government of India briefed about the KIP and mentioned how the programme intends to bridge the gap with second and third generation Diaspora youth. He also shared relevant information pertaining to scholarships and partner institutions in India where they can explore higher education. KIP is conducted in partnership with one or two State Governments with a view to promote awareness on different facets of life in India and the progress made by the country in various fields e.g. economic, industrial, education, Science & Technology, Communication & Information Technology, culture.

Prof. M. Aslam, Vice- Chancellor, IGNOU apprised the gathering about the educational contribution of IGNOU at national and international level. He also highlighted various educational opportunities available at IGNOU and about its various functionaries. The meeting ended with a screening of a short video on IGNOU at a glance.
