Nehal Farooquee obtained M.A. and M. Phil. in Political Science and International Studies from JNU, New Delhi and Ph.D. in Political Science. He has 20 years of experience to his credit in National level Organizations i.e. Center for Science and Environment (CSE), New Delhi and G.B. Pant Institute of Himalayan Environment and Development, GBPIHED (An Autonomous Institute of Ministry of Environment and Forests, Govt. of India), Almora. He has authored 1 book, co-authored 2 books, edited 2 books and published more than 80 Research Papers on different aspects of Himalayan environment and development issues in various peer reviewed International and National Journals. He has worked in various projects by various international and national agencies on various areas of Himalayan environment and development i.e. Natural Resource Management, Forest Related Issues, High Altitude Societies, Drinking Water and Sanitation, Migration, Pastoralism, Hill Farming, Study on Scheduled Tribes, Traditional Institutions, Health and Family Welfare Issues, Village Level Institutions, Education, Rural Development, Traditional Knowledge Systems and Governance. Dr. Farooquee has attended various International Seminars, Conferences and Study Tours and visited to countries such as Canada, Sweden, Denmark, Nepal and Sri Lanka. He is life member of many learned Bodies.

Dr. Farooquee joined IGNOU in 2009 as Associate Professor in the School of Extension and Development Studies, where he is Coordinating M.A., PG Diploma and PG Certificate in Extension and Development Studies and PG Diploma in Urban Planning and Development.
