Prof. Himadri Roy

Director

Prof. (Dr.) Himadri Roy is a faculty with the School of Gender and Development Studies. His expertise lies in Gender and Cinema, Media Literature, and LGBT Studies.
Before joining here, he also had been teaching in University of Delhi and was an teaching assistant with Centre of English and Linguistics Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, where he completed his doctoral degree in 2007. The thesis title was ‘Exoticisation vs. Marginalisation: Portrayal of Aborigines in Australian Literature’. He was awarded his M. Phil. Degree from the same centre and the title of his dissertation was ‘Memory and Identity: Indian Diaspora in Vassanji’s No New Land’.
He has recently published a book on Film adaptations. He also has published a book on Gay portrayals in Bollywood cinema.and several articles on LGBT issues on different edited volumes, e-zines, online journals. He is also a novelist. His recent novel 'L'Amour of Siliguri' has been praised for breaking gender binaries. His previous novel ‘Tales of Hope Chasers’ has been acclaimed as ‘must-read for all’ by Times of India.
He has presented several papers on LGBT and Cinema and Literature, and other LGBT issues on international and national seminars, conferences and symposiums. 
At present, Prof. Himadri Roy is Programme co-ordinator of PG Diploma in Women’s and Gender Studies (Distance Mode).
