Prof. Shambhu Nath Singh

Professor

Prof. Shambhu Nath Singh obtained Ph. D from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi based on thesis adjudged as the ‘Best Thesis’ of the year “Sanchar-Kranti Aur Vikassheel Desh” (Communication Revolution and Developing Countries).
 
He served as Vice-Chancellor of Patna University, Bihar, India - one of the oldest universities in India. His initiatives in recognising teaching excellence and encouraging student toppers, introduction of semester system, examination reforms and initiation of e-governance etc. enabled the university to be in the lime light again.
 
As the founding director of the School of Journalism and New Media Studies of the Indira Gandhi National Open University, Prof. Singh has been instrumental in initiating programmes and projects in collaboration with UNESCO, Deutche Welle, Germany, Commonwealth Educational Media Centre for Asia (CEMCA), Asian Media Information and Communication Centre (AMIC) etc.
 
Prof. S. N. Singh has been Visiting Professor to Indian Institute of Mass Communication, New Delhi, International Media Institute, Gurgaon, and Senior Professor Jagran Institute of Management & Mass Communication, NOIDA.
 
He is Visitor’s Nominee to Dr. Hari Singh Gaur University, Sagar, M.P., Maulana Azad National Urdu University, Hyderabad (both Central universities) and Chancellor’s Nominee to Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapith, Varanasi, and Lucknow University, Lucknow, UP (Both State universities). He was the Chairman of the Draft Statute Committee for Promotion and Appointments in Universities in Bihar.
 
Prof. S. N. Singh is also associated with various central and state universities as member of Board of Studies, Curriculum Committee, Finance Committee and Selection Committees.
 
His contribution to the media profession extends to about two decades. He had worked in various senior editorial capacities in the media. He was also Editorial Trainer to ‘Dainik Jagaran Group of news papers, Media Consultant to Secretariat for Commemoration of 50th Anniversary of India’s Independence, Department of Culture, HRD Ministry and Co-Editor to “Communication 2000 AD”, Silver Jubilee Smarak Granth,
Indian Institute of Mass Communication, Ministry of I & B.
 
He has more than thousand 1st articles in Edit Page analysing social, cultural and political affairs to his credit.
 
Prof. Singh represented India in the prestigious ‘International Leadership Visitor Programme –US (2007) sponsored by U.S. Department of State.
He was felicitated with ‘Harmony Award’(1997) for his contribution to the field of journalism and Sahityakar Award’ (2002-2003) for his contribution to Hindi journalism.
 
He was Resource Person for World Journalism Education Congress, South Africa (2010). He had also attended the World Summit on Sustainable Development, Johannesburg (2002) as U.N. Delegate.
 
Prof. S.N. Singh has also contributed to public service by actively participating in various committees such as Sub-Committee on Media for Communal Harmony (Ministry of Home Affairs), Central Consumer Protection Council (CCPC) (Ministry of Food & Civil Supplies), Advisory Panel, Censor Board of Film Certification (CBFC) (Ministry of I & B), Hindi Advisory Committee (Ministry of Statistics & Programme Implementation), Task Force on Broadcasting Services Regulation Bill and the Content Code
(Ministry of Information and Broadcasting), Core Committee on Standardisation of Media Education to develop National Media curriculum frame work (Press Council of India) etc.
