Prof K Elumalai

Prof K Elumalai joined School of Law on May 15, 2008. He holds a Bachelor's and Master's Degree in Law from Delhi University (DU) and Ph D from Sri Krishnadevaraya University, Andhra Pradesh. He also holds a Master's Degree and Master of Philosophy in Economics from Madras University.

Prof Elumalai worked as a Professor of Law at Vaikunth Mehta Institute of Corporative Management, Pune (1992-2008). Prior to this, he worked with a Public Sector Bank as an Economic officer for a decade (1982-92). He had also briefly worked as Assistant Professor of Economics in a College affiliated with Madras University (1981-82) and with Government of Tamil Nadu in the Department of Statistics (1980-81).

He specialises in Consumer Protection, Banking Laws, Cooperative Law, Cyber Law and Human Rights. He assisted in drafting of cooperative law for three northeastern states. The 97th Constitutional Amendment on Cooperative Societies came into force in January 2012 was broadly on the lines/model suggested by him for the consideration of the High Power Committee constituted for the purpose by the Government of India. The Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperation, Government of India had also invited him, to suggest changes to be made in the Multi State Societies Cooperatives Act, 2002. He has been a Member of several Committees Constituted by GoI, RBI, UGC and NCERT to name a few.

He has written five books. His book on ‘Cooperative Legal System’ published by NCERT is a prescribed textbook for class XII students for vocational courses. His books on ‘Consumer Protection Act and Banking Service with Digest of Case Laws’ and ‘Seth’s Banking Regulation Act and allied Banking Laws' (co-authored) received wider appreciation. The UN Solution Exchange has identified him to lead an Action Group Forum on 'Strengthening Cooperative Acts for Financial Inclusion and Micro Finance'. He has been a visiting faculty at College of Agricultural Banking (RBI) Pune and NIBM, Pune. He is a visiting faculty at the Indian Law Institute, New Delhi, CBI Academy, Ghaziabad, Haryana Police Academy, Madhuban.
