Eligibility:

Possesses Master’s Degree from a University recognized by UGC or any other qualification recognized as equivalent thereto in such fields of study as are notified for the purpose from time to time by the University with at least 55% marks [50% marks in the case of SC, ST, OBC (Non-creamy Layer) and Differently-Abled and other categories of candidates as per the decision of UGC from time to time, or for those who had obtained their Master’s Degree prior to 19th September, 1991]excluding grace mark.

This programme aims to provide an in-depth knowledge centered on the applied research methods, methodologies and techniques covering both the broad streams of physical and human geography in detail. In doing so, researchers will not only foray into the nucleus and original nature of spatial inquiry (specialty of a geographer), they will also actively unravel and may utilize the both quantitative and qualitative dimensions of inquiry aided with geospatial technologies to arrive at intended outcomes in their chosen arena of geographical research. In addition, the researchers will also explore diverse areas of specialization according to their chosen interest/specialization to obtain knowledge regarding vital aspects of developmental discourses that exemplifies our country, India in particular and World in general. The six-monthly course work is mandatory soon after the admission and classes generally commences during the admission year from July to December.


Quintessentially, this programme will endeavor to facilitate the prospective research scholars not only to invigorate their fundamentals learnt so far but also make them learn the underpinnings and nitty-gritty of research along with research ethics with a critical and scientific bent of mind. It also aims to make them learn and get equipped with the latest intellectual advancements and techniques in geography and their praxis for personal, academic, professional and lifelong future endeavors in an ever-changing world.
