Hon'ble Minister of Education, Shri Ramesh Pokhriyal 'Nishank' lays the foundation stone of IGNOU Regional Center, Karnal
Hon'ble Minister of Education, Shri Ramesh Pokhriyal 'Nishank' laid the foundation stone of IGNOU Regional Center, Karnal's building via virtual mode today. On the occasion, he congratulated IGNOU’s Vice-Chancellor Prof. Nageshwar Rao and IGNOU for making higher education accessible to rural and semi-urban areas as well. Which Hon'ble Minister said is one of the key areas of the New Education Policy. He also praised the contribution of the regional center in covering all the sections of the society and providing higher education opportunities to women and SC/ST which is almost one-third of the total student strength of the RC of around 80 thousand. He added that the New Education Policy lays special stress on Online and Open Distance Education and IGNOU's role in achieving the GER as envisaged in the new policy cannot be overemphasized.
Prof. Nageshwar Rao, VC IGNOU thanked the minister for virtually laying the foundation stone and for always encouraging new ideas and innovations in the realm of Open and Distance Education.
The building of the center will be constructed by CPWD and maintenance of it will also be done by the department only as per the MoU between IGNOU and CPWD. ADG Sh. D. K. Garg CPWD and other officials were present at the foundation-stone laying ceremony.
Key officials including Prof. Satyakam, Pro-VC IGNOU, Dr. V.B. Negi, Registrar, RSD Director Sh. M Shamnugham, Finance Officer Sh. Jitendra Dev Gangwar, CPO Er. Sh. Sudheer Reddy and Karnal Regional Director Dr. Poonam Singh, were also present at the occasion with other staff members of the center.
