21st Prof. G. Ram Reddy Memorial Lecture at IGNOU

06 July, 2016

Dr Sanjaya Baru, Member, Government Board Centre for Policy Research today said “Great institutions are made by good leaders and a good leader is one who invests in building institutions rather than perpetuating a personality cult. In honouring Prof Ram Reddy today we honour both his qualities of head and heart and his leadership qualities. “

He was delivering the 21st Prof. G. Ram Reddy Memorial Lecture on the topic “Ram Reddy and Narasimha Rao- Why Leadership Matters” at Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), New Delhi.

Dr. Baru said that a committee appointed by the Union government has come forward with a Report on a New Education Policy. We have seen such reports in the past. Hopefully this time the government will take this report seriously and address the root causes of the on-going crisis in higher education. Hopefully it will recognize that the problem thus far has not been as much about ‘policies’ as it has been about ‘people’. Even the best of policies can fail if implemented by the wrong people. That is why, we commemorate Prof. Ram Reddy, we should underscore the importance of leadership in higher education.

Prof. J.S. Rajput, Member, BOM, IGNOU was the Chief Guest on the occasion. He said “An Individual made big university and university made great people “while giving a contribution to Prof. G. Ram Reddy.

IGNOU is growing at a faster pace and we are proud of it.  It earned a renowned name outside India also with Regional Centre Network said Prof Ravindra Kumar, VC, IGNOU.

On this Occasion two volumes named “3 decades of distance education” and “Nurturing social equity through distance education” were released by Dr. Sanjaya Baru.
The programme was presided over by Prof Ravindra Kumar, VC, IGNOU, Prof. E.Vayunandan, Chairperson, Organizing Committee  welcomed the audience  and Mr. Sudhir Budakoti, Registrar (Administration) gave vote of thanks.
