IGNOU launches web-based Radio & TV Channels for its students

20 October, 2014

Indira Gandhi National Open University launched web-based Radio & TV Channels for the benefit of its students spread across the country and abroad.

Prof. M. Aslam, VC, IGNOU, dedicated these new virtual channels to the educational world from the premises of Electronic Media Production Centre of IGNOU. On the occasion, he stated that webizens, particularly IGNOU students will now be able to access high quality curriculum based Audio-Video Programmes and get an opportunity to interact with Subject Experts in real time through this new initiative. He stated that IGNOU was making efforts to fully harness the modern advancements in the field of ICTs by making the transition from broadcast media to the online media. This he felt was in tune with the objectives of the digital India programme of the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India. This webcast is much economical compared to commercial broadcasts and can be easily accessed.

The unique feature of these web-based channels are that they are in public domain and can be accessed by the students directly from their homes at http://www.ignouonline.ac.in/Broadcast/ without having to go to the Regional Centres or Local Study Centres. This is in keeping with the philosophy of openness of IGNOU’s educational system.

IGNOU’s webcast would be on a pilot test run initially after which high quality audio-video programmes along with ‘live’ interactions with subject experts in the field would be customized to meet the specific needs of the students in consultations with different Schools of Studies & Regional Services Division (RSD) of IGNOU. This initiative will ultimately make a qualitative as well quantitative difference in distance mode of learning.
