Educational broadcasts through Gyan Darshan and Gyan Vani by IGNOU under the aegis of DoorDarshan have been actually assets for the learning communities. Therefore, when the transmission was stopped on 2nd June, 2014 the learning community was at a severe loss. With strong advocacy from MHRD who is serious about learning opportunities, today, DoorDarshan signed a MoU with Indira Gandhi National Open University reviving transmission of Gyan Darshan for educational broadcasts. The MoU was signed, on behalf of DoorDarshan by Ms. Deepa Chandra, Deputy Director (General) and Mr. Sudhir Budhakoti, Registrar(Administration), IGNOU.
The signing ceremony was presided by Ms. Supriya Sahu, Director General, DoorDarshan and Prof. Ravindra Kumar, Vice-Chancellor I/C, IGNOU
.
The function was held at the office of Director General, DoorDarshan and was attended by teams comprising Prof. Kapil Kumar, Director, EMPC and the staff of DoorDarshan. Ms. Supriya Sahu described the event “a momentous occasion because Gyan Darshan has been serving the learners in general from semi-urban and rural areas and fulfilling their academic needs.” She sought academic inputs from IGNOU for DoorDarshan programmes, specifically for educational enrichment.
Prof. Ravindra Kumar, while thanking HRM and Secretary (HE), Mr. Oberoi, supported Ms. Sahu’s comment. He said the educational programmes of IGNOU aired through DoorDarshan and other channels are meant for knowledge enhancement of all sections of society and are not limited to IGNOU students alone. The knowledge seekers look for every opportunity of learning and television is an effective medium.
GyanDarshan is likely to be on air by 1st January 2017 for which all preparations are being carried out by the Electronic Media Centre of IGNOU, said Director, EMPC, Mr. Ravi Kanth.
