Swachcha Bharat Abhiyan Celebrated by IGNOU

Today, Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) celebrated "Swachcha Bharat Abhiyan" to achieve the Clean India Campaign to mark the 145th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of Nation as well as the 110th Anniversary of Bharat Ratna Shri. Lal Bahadur Shastri.

As a part of the National Mission, Prof. M. Aslam, Vice Chancellor,IGNOU launched Swachcha Bharat Abhiyan in its Campus, New Delhi as well as 67 Regional Centres and Study Centres all across the country through Web Conferencing to a packed Convention Hall with more than 600 officials, employees of IGNOU.

Prof. Aslam, VC said that our country has taken this step of ‘Swachcha Bharat Mission’ and we all must take this mission further highlighting the need of Cleanliness, he also announced few concrete and significant steps to achieve this mission viz:

  • Environment friendly arrangement by Construction and Maintenance Division of IGNOU to be made for disposal of solid waste.
  • Administration to liaison with Municipal Corporation of Delhi for maintaining cleanliness in and around IGNOU campus.
  • Launch of awareness programme for Employees as well as Regional Centres have been planned for the month of October 2014.
  • Committees for cleanliness and sanitation to be constituted in all the 67 RCs.
  • A nodal officer would be made responsible in each Department for ensuring cleanliness.

Prof. Aslam, the VC, also administered the Pledge of Clealiness to all those assembled in the Convention Hall. Each employee of IGNOU pledged “As a citizen of India I commit that I will not throw any garbage / waste on the road or street but throw it only in the dustbin or location provided for same besides the whole pledge.” After the pledge, the VC took a round of the Campus, alongwith his team and personally started, supervised and monitored the drive towards cleanliness as well as planted trees on the cleaned areas/zones in the campus.

All PVCs, teachers, officers, and staff actively participated in cleaning their office and IGNOU campus.
