Keeping in view the enormous growth of the University; multifarious activities performed by the University; directive of National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) and University Grants Commission; the Centre has been established with the primary focus to shoulder the responsibilities of generating and promoting awareness for quality assurance; to undertake self-evaluative and reflective exercises for continuous improvement in all the systems and operations of the University; to devise mechanisms for interaction and obtaining feedback from various schools/divisions/units/centres of the University and students, employers and stakeholders as inputs for quality improvement; to ensure compliance of norms and guidelines prescribed by apex/ regulatory bodies; to work for seeking recognition/ approvals and accreditation from various apex bodies in the country for IGNOU and its programmes. The CIQA reports directly to the Vice Chancellor, IGNOU (Academic Coordination Division IGNOU, 2016).
 
Mandate
 
  1. To act as a coordinating unit for seeking recognition/ approvals from various apex bodies in the country for IGNOU programs; 
  2. To ensure compliance of norms and guidelines prescribed by the Apex/ Regulatory bodies;
  3. To act as a coordinating unit for seeking assessment and accreditation from a designated body for accreditation like NAAC etc;
  4. To undertake self-evaluative and reflective exercises for continual improvement in all the systems and processes of the University;
  5. To develop quality benchmarks/parameters for the various academic and administrative activities of the University;
  6. To retrieve information from other institutions on various quality benchmarks/parameters and best practices to customize them as per the needs of IGNOU and to document our own best practices;
  7. To develop and maintain a central database on all academic and administrative activities of IGNOU;
  8. To identify the gaps in the existing services offered and suggest measures for qualitative improvement;
  9. To conduct need analysis prior to launch of any academic program;
  10. To create a mechanism of following due diligence in vetting and finalization of MOUs;
  11. To devise mechanisms for interaction and obtaining feedback from various Schools/Divisions/Units/Centers of the University and students, employers and stakeholders as inputs for quality improvement;
  12. To ensure participation of stakeholders namely, learners, teachers, members of staff, parents, society, employers, and government in quality improvement processes;
  13. To provide guidance towards inculcation of values of ‘Quality Assurance’ along with those of scholarship and pursuit of excellence among the quintessential learners;
  14. To create mechanism of program evaluation;
  15. To ensure continuous improvement in the operations of the University.
