Security Officer

Major (Dr.) Karan Kapur is tenanting the appointment of Security Officer at IGNOU and is also a proud alumnus of the University itself. He was born on 27th July, 1988 and joined the Indian Army on 08th October, 2010 and got commissioned to the Regiment of Artillery. He has held numerous instructional, staff and command appointments. His staff appointments include GSO-2 (Chinese Interpreter/ Edn Offr) of a Mountain Brigade responsible for maintaining Border Maintenance Posture (BMP) in the North East along with LAC with China, Adjutant and Quarter Master of an independent Medium Regiment in modified field and counter insurgency operations. An alumni of Army School, Samba (Jammu & Kashmir), Border Security Force Senior Secondary School, Jammu (J&K), ARSD College, Delhi University, New Delhi, Indian Institute of Planning and Management, New Delhi, Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla, Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), New Delhi, Officer’s Training Academy, Chennai (Tamil Nadu), Army Air Defence College, Gopalpur (Odisha), School of Artillery, Devlali (Maharashtra), Chetak Corps Battle School, Bathinda (Punjab) and Army Educational Corps Training College and Centre, Pachmarhi. Young Officer’s Course, Advance Gunnery Course, UAV Recognition and Reporting Course, Junior Command Course, CIDSS Basic Course, Chinese Language Course, Master’s in Business Administration, Economics, Tourism and Ph.D stand testimony to his tenacity and perseverance. He has performed exceedingly well in almost all the courses he has attended. His command appointments include Battery Commander of a Medium Regiment in internal security duties and operation Rakshak in counter insurgency in modified field. He has an inspirational personality of acclaim, is an illustrious personality, a zealous administrator, a combat experienced defined solider and a reservoir of distilled wisdom. An highly decorated officer, a recipient of Samanya Seva Medal with clasp Arunachal, Sainaya Seva Medal with clasp J&K, Special Suraksha Medal with clasp OP Rakshak, High Altitude Medal and 09 years Long Service Medal. The officer has been an eminent commentator for Republic Day Parade, various National and International events, and has been making Armed Forces documentaries. He has rich operational experience having actively participated in OP Rakshak, OP Aman Shanti –I & II, OP Shanti Bahal, OP Snow Leopard and OP Northern Borders. The officer has been tenanting the appointment with his charismatic leadership worthy of emulation. For the dedication to duty penchant and quest for improvement in every field, steadfast devotion, going much beyond the call of duty, leadership par excellence and unflinching dedication, the officer has been recommended for General Officer Commanding in-Chief Western Command commendation card in the recent past.
