Prof. Neerja Chadha

Professor

Neerja Chadha, Ph.D, is Professor of Child Development. She obtained the Master’s degree in Child Development, as well as the Doctoral degree, from the University of Delhi. She was awarded the University Gold Medal at the Master’s level. After teaching briefly at the University of Delhi and at the National Institute of Open Schooling, she has been a faculty member in Child Development at the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) since 1989, where she has been engaged in teaching and concomitant research activities.
 
Prof. Neerja Chadha has been a Post Doctoral Fellow, in 2007, at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada under the Shastri Indo-Canadian Faculty Research Programme. Her research work at UBC focused on ‘Acculturation and Social Cognition’.

She has also been a Post Doctoral ICSSR Fellow from 2008 to 2009, and has conducted intensive research on pressures and adjustment during adolescence.

Further, she has been a Member of the Indo-French Forum from 2004 to 2006, selected by the Ministry of External Affairs, GOI, with the mandate to advise on ways of diversifying and enriching the bilateral relationship.

Prof. Neerja Chadha has presented a number of research papers in several national and international conferences, and has extensive published work in the areas of ECCE, Disability, Counselling, Family Therapy, and Child Development; including a book on ‘Prosocial Development in Children’ and a chapter on ‘Socio-Emotional Development in the Cultural Context’ in the “Handbook of Psychology in India”, published by Oxford University Press.
 
Prof. Neerja Chadha was the Director of the School of Continuing Education at IGNOU from 1st January, 2015 for three years. She has been a member of various important statutory bodies and Committees at IGNOU as well as other Universities and organizations. She has successfully guided Ph.D scholars at IGNOU, and been an external examiner for Ph.D theses of a number of other HEIs.

Prof. Neerja Chadha has contributed to the design, development, writing, and editing of a number of courses at IGNOU. Currently, she is the Programme Coordinator of the Post Graduate Diploma in Counselling and Family Therapy as well as the Master’s Degree Programme in Counselling and Family Therapy.
