The Diploma in Horticulture (DHORT) has been developed to cater the knowledge and skill up gradation in the area of horticulture. The development of this programme has been funded by Ministry of Agriculture and Farmer’s Welfare, GOI. The Horticulture is the science and art of production of fruits, vegetables, flowering plant, and landscaping; besides it also deals with the preservation and production of value added products from fruits, vegetables and flowers. The importance of horticultural products in the diet of the human is immense. This sector also offers great job potential in its different specializations. Raising seedling of different crop plants be it fruit or for the aesthetic purpose, collectively called Nursery Management is an emerging area. The off-seasonal vegetable production and kitchen gardening are other areas in this sector offering better employment and nutrition opportunities. Urban gardening, roof top gardening and lawn management are equally becoming important at present.

Objectives
• To educate secondary pass students about Horticulture,
• To build human resources at supervisors, gardeners, entrepreneurs and middle level technicians in the area of Horticulture, and
• To develop entrepreneurship in Horticulture.
