Dr. Gurupada Saren

Assistant Professor

After Graduating in Social Work with honours, Dr. Gurupada Saren did his Masters in Social Work from Tata Institute of Social Science, Mumbai and Ph.D in Sociology from Burdwan University, Burdwan (West Bengal). In the year 1999 he was awarded the Indian Council of Social Science Research National (ICSSR) Fellowship. Prior to his engagement with Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), he was actively involved with various NGOs for eight years. In January 2006 he joined IGNOU as a Lecturer in Rural Development. In 2006-2008 he was Coordinator of Post Graduate Diploma in Social Work.  At present he is Coordinator of Ph.D (Rural Development) and Diploma in Panchayat Level Administration and Development (DPLAD). He is also Coordinator of Interactive Radio Counselling (IRC) and Gyandarshan for SOCE.


Recently, he has published one book namely ‘Seasonal Migration and Tribal Identity’ in 2017. Besides this, he has published many articles in reputed national and international Journals, chapters in edited books and edited a book on HIV Aids – A Supplementary Reading Materials for Bachelor of Social Work Students. He has also participated and presented papers in many national and international conferences in the areas of Panchayati Raj Institutions, Women Empowerment, Tribal Self Governance, Seasonal Migration of Tribals etc.
