Prof. Rekha S Sen

Director

Dr. Rekha Sharma Sen is Professor, Faculty of Child Development, School Of Continuing Education, Indira Gandhi National Open University, New Delhi.
 
She has Masters Degrees in Child Development and Elementary Education from University of Delhi and Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai respectively. Her PhD research (University of Delhi) explored indigenous conceptions of creativity and its nurture through school education. Her specialization and areas of interest include Early Childhood Care and Education, Disability, Creativity, Emergent and Early Literacy, and Gender in Open and Distance Learning.
 
At IGNOU, she has designed developed and coordinated programmes of study in the field of Early Childhood Care and Education. She has also developed programmes of study for parents and family members of persons with disabilities, adopting a life span approach to managing disability as well for professionals working with children with disabilities in the birth to six years period, specifically those with intellectual disability, cerebral palsy and visual impairment.  She was co-principal investigator for the project “Impact Assessment of Awareness–cum-Training Packages in Disability for parents and family members of persons with disabilities.”
 
She was Chair Professor (on deputation) at Centre for Early Childhood Development and Research (CECDR), Jamia Millia Islamia in the period July 2011 to May 2014. At Jamia Millia Islamia she has taught Masters students in the field of Early Childhood Development and also conducted research. Her completed research projects include
 
  • Evaluation of efficacy of parent education programme for mothers in rural Odisha
  • Designing, implementation and evaluation of the restructured preschool curriculum in selected ICDS Projects in Haryana, Delhi and Rajasthan on a pilot basis
  • Literacy pedagogies in preprimary and class 1 in a trilingual school environment
 
She has received awards for academic excellence, research based journal paper and innovative programme development through the distance mode in the sector of disability. She has research based articles and chapters in national and international refereed journals and books and has authored chapters for secondary and senior secondary classes for NCERT and CBSE textbooks. She has provided technical and resource support to various organizations.
