The School of Sciences has developed Master of Science in Geography (MSCGG) with the help of eminent geographers from various Universities of the country. This programme puts an emphasis on the relevance of Geography as an inclusive, integrated and holistic subject. It studies the human-environment relationships both in spatial and temporal dimensions, especially in the context of human beings, flora and fauna along with complex earth systems. This is a two-year Master’s degree programme in Geography, which is offered in both January and July cycles of admission each year. The programme has been divided into two semesters per year (July to December and January to June). This programme comprises of 13 core and compulsory theory courses worth 52 credits and 5 core and compulsory lab courses worth 20 credits. There is one course on project worth 8 credits. To successfully complete this programme, you will have to earn 80 credits over a period of 2 to 4 years depending on your convenience. The theory courses are designed to provide the basic knowledge and essential techniques of Master’s level Geography by covering the broad streams of physical and human geography. These theory courses will help you in studying the lab courses well, with an emphasis on quantitative and qualitative dimensions of inquiry aided with geospatial technologies. The lab courses have been designed in this programme separately and each semester has one or two lab course.
The broad aim of this programme is to orient, enable and equip the prospective learners for the praxis of learnt geographical knowledge for personal, academic, professional and lifelong future endeavours in an ever-changing world.
Programme Objectives
This programme has the following broad objectives:
· to enable the learners with a better understanding of earth, its geomorphic processes as well as regional, socio-cultural and economic dimensions;
· to inculcate a sense of environmental ethics among the learners that generates concerns on sustainability of earth systems;
· to orient the learners towards geographical research and expose them to tools and techniques on strong theoretical background; and
· to prepare the learners for the current and emerging job requirements in the market, including both at national and international levels.
