17th G.Ram Reddy Memorial Lecture on July 2

Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) is holding 17th G. Ram Reddy Memorial Lecture on July 2, 2012 at the Convention Centre,IGNOU ,Maidan Garhi at 3:30 pm.
Prof.(Dr.) D N Reddy, former Vice Chancellor of JNTU & Chairman, Recruitment & Assessment Centre (DRDO) will be the Chief Guest and will deliver this lecture on “Education in 21st Century- Toward Virtual Universities and Technology Enabled Learning”.
An exhibition of books, publications, papers and other excellent material shall be on display highlighting Prof. Ram Reddy’s contribution to the country. It shall be the resource centre of Memorial lectures and other relevant educational repository.
The function shall be presided over by Prof. M. Aslam, VC, IGNOU and coordinated by Prof. D. Gopal Chairman, G. Ram Reddy Memorial Committee. It will be telecast live on Gyan Darshan and the webcast will be available on www.ignou.ac.in
Prof.(Dr.) D N Reddy took over as the Chairman, RAC (DRDO) on 20th June 2012, Presently he is also Member, University Grant Commission (UGC), New Delhi and Regional Chairman, AICTE (SCRO), Hyderabad, Formerly, he served as Vice Chancellor, Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Hyderabad (Aug 2008 to Aug 2011) and and Vice Chancellor I/c, Osmania University, Hyderabad (Feb 2011 to July 2011).
Born on 15th August 1950 in Andhra Pradesh, he completed his school education in his home state. His specialization is in Mechenical Engineering. After completing B.E. (Mechanical) with first class and distinction from Osmania University, Hyderabad (1968-74), he took his M.Tech in Thermal Engineering (Mechanical) with first class from I.I.T., Madras (1974-76). He pursued Ph.D on Turbo Machines (Mechanical) from I.I.T., Delhi (1983-86). To his credit he has published 90 research papers and visited several countries on various assignments. Having a long professional and administrative experience, he could give substantial contribution to diverse areas of institutional, curriculum and laboratory development.
Prof. G. Ram Reddy was the harbinger of the Open University in India. He was the founding Vice Chancellor of India’s first Open University, the Andhra Pradesh Open University(APOU), and the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU). Educated at Osmania University and the London School of Economics, he was a distinguished scholor of Political Science and Public Administration.
His contribution to the cause of the higher education in achieving economic development Prof. G. Ram Reddy made it his life’s mission. He established, shaped and natured many many institutions of higher learning, including the B.R. Ambedkar Open University and the National Assessment and Accreditation council in India.
He held many other important positions in the academic world- Vice Chancellor of Osmania University for two terms, Vice- President of the Commonwealth of Learning (COL), Chairman of the University Grant Commission and Chairman of Indian Council of Social Science Research. The COL-International Council of Distance Education (ICDE) Award for Excellence conferred on Prof. Ram Reddy is an eloquent testimony to the to the International recognition of his vision and contribution.
