Creche

The need for a Creche for the children of working mothers, on the premises of the educational institutions has been reiterated in the XI Five Year Plan, UGC, National Policy on Education-1986. It is in this light that IGNOU has been giving yearly grants for the development and the maintenance of activities related to the Creche.

The IGNOU Creche was opened as a registered society for the benefit of all IGNOU employees. As per the Act of the society, the affairs of the Creche are managed by an elected Committee. The Committee is elected by the members of the General body of the society for a period of 2 years. The society is formally known as the Staff Children Development Society (SCDS). The constitution of the society authorizes the members to discharge amongst other responsibilities, financial responsibilities as well. The sources of income of the Creche are fee received from the parents of the children and grants received from the University every year.

From the beginning, the Creche has been serving the needs of the permanent faculty members of IGNOU and administrative staff of the University. The Creche is also being utilized by the daily wage employees for their children.
