Engineer-in-Charge

S.V.S. Prasant, is currently Engineer-in-Charge in Electronic Media Production Centre of Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) and managing 10 KW FM Educational Radio Network (GyanVani). He had more than 32 years of experience in planning, design and integration of Audio-Video studios and Post Production facilities for Open Distance Learning institutions including Radio and Television broadcasting.

He was associated in planning, design and integration of the educational Audio–Video Production facilities by the Japanese teams while implementing the “Improvement /strengthening of educational media production facilities for IGNOU” Projects by JICA in three phases
1989: High Band format Video Post Production, Computer Graphics & Duplication facilities
1996: Betacam format Audio -Video Studios, Post Production Duplication facilities
2013: High definition (HD) format Virtual studio and Networked Edit facilities

He has organized & coordinated number of training programs for engineering staff to enable them to effectively operate and maintain upgraded equipment installed in EMPC from time to time. He has actively contributed in educational program productions of EMPC in general and in creation of special effects in particular. He has participated in development of self learning material for a course in “Advance diploma in audio and video technologies” of IGNOU.

He has expertise in setting up of satellite television channels (Gyandarshan) and FM Radio channels (GyanVani). He was instrumental in obtaining licenses from various governments agencies viz Ministry of information and broadcasting, WPC, Ministry of communication and IT. He was member of Management advisory committee of EMPC.

He was convener of Technical Purchase Committee of EMPC and procured FM Radio transmission infrastructure for setting up thirty-seven GyanVani(GV) stations across the country. Designed and equipped audio studios at IGNOU Regional Centers for GV stations. Carried out acceptance tests and quality inspection of FM transmission equipment at Original Equipment Manufacturer’ s factories in Australia, UK, USA, Germany and Spain.

Prior to this, he has served as Sr. Engineering Assistant and looked after entire audio and video media related activities of Audio and Video Production and Research Centre of BRAOU, (formally A P Open University), Hyderabad from 1984 to 1988.

Educational Qualifications

S.V.S. Prasant has graduated in Electronics and Communication Engineering from Institute of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (IETE), New Delhi in 1987. He has received Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Human Resources Management from IGNOU in the year 2015. Besides, he also earned Master of Arts in Distance Education (MADE) from IGNOU in 2016.

He has earlier received Diploma in Electronics and Communication Engineering from Andhra Polytechnic, Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh in 1982. He has completed one-year special course in “Domestic Electronics” in Advanced Training Institute for Electronics and Process Instrumentation (ATI-EPI), Hyderabad in 1983. He has perused an Advanced Level Course in Computer sciences (ALCCS) from IETE.

He has attended individual training program in Maintenance and Testing of Broadcast equipment of SONY in Tokyo, Japan organized by JICA in 1993. Also, attended training programs conducted by DECU-ISRO, AIR, and Commonwealth Educational Media Centre for Asia (CEMCA) on various advanced technologies related to Audio - Video Equipment maintenance as well as educational multimedia program productions.

S.V.S. Prasant is life member (Fellow) in the Institution of Electronics Telecommunication Engineers (IETE), New Delhi.
