Dr. P Radhika

Assistant Professor

Initiated into the art of Bharatanatyam at a young age, Dr. P. Radhika completed her Arangetram under Guru.B. Umamaheshwari at Ranipet, Tamil Nadu. Her formal training in dance continued at Kalakshetra, Chennai, wherefrom she obtained her Diploma in Dance. She went on to complete Masters in Dance from University of Hyderabad. With a NET and a JRF in Dance from UGC, she completed her Doctorate in Dance in the area of Critical study of works of Rukmini Devi and Chandralekha under Prof. J. Anuradha. She now works as Assistant Professor (Sr) at the School of Performing and Visual arts, New Delhi
Her specializations include-
Dance Practicals- Body conditioning, Performance , Choreography, Improvisation, narration/ story telling, Rhythm and tala, Bharatanatyam, folk and tribal Indian dance forms-Angika and Sattvika abhinaya, Yoga & Martial arts
Theory: Aesthetics, Dance and Performance studies, Oral and textual traditions, Comparative study, Indian Performance traditions- Classical, Folk, tribal and contemporary, Critical studies pertaining to History and Performance,
Research interests:
Present: Socio-cultural History and Critical perspectives, Dance and gender, Dance in Diaspora, Choreographc analysis, Methodological concerns in Dance research.
Future: Application oriented- Interdisciplinary Dance Pedagogy, Trans- disciplinary approach to correlating Dance-Performance and contexts, Dance Therapy, Dance in Education.
