Prof (Dr) Sunil Kumar

Professor & Director

A professional fine artist, recipient of two National awards, well travelled and Director School of Performing and Visual Arts Professor Sunil Kumar is working intensively for school and higher education system and particularly associated with Visual, Performing and Arts Education. He has introduced and designed new programmes, courses, developed curricula, syllabi, text books, supplementary print and non-print materials, training modules in performing and visual arts etc. As the founder Director and first Professor of the School of Performing and Visual Arts (SOPVA) since March 2009 conceptualized the vision of the School and took initiative to designed and develop academic programmes and established numerous Study Centers all over the Country to develop skills in various art forms for the benefit of the variety of demands of the learner community and to meet the mission and vision of Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU). Since 1980 to 2009, worked intensively for school education system and particularly involved in Arts Education (General, Vocational & Professional). He conceptualized, designed and got introduced a new curricular subject ‘Graphic Design’ at Senior Secondary as an optional subject for CBSE. He developed a Resource Centre at Department of Elementary Education, NCERT. He was instrumental as In-charge Head and senior faculty in establishing newly created Department of Education in Arts and Aesthetics with a vision to promote Arts as scholastic subject of learning and pedagogy and new concepts for Arts Education at NCERT. Prof. Kumar is engaged in guiding and supervising conventional teaching, research, and provide guidance for the production of various audio-visual/video programmes, radio and teleconferencing, exhibition materials including research and evaluation. Associated with various National Institutions and Universities in different capacity he is proficient in computer aided graphic designs, photography and different techniques of printing i.e. Silk Screen, Lithography, Linoleum, Etching, Letter Press, Offset etc.
