Dr. R Vashum
Associate Professor
R. Vashum did his schooling a few schools in Ukhrul district and Imphal, Manipur. His Pre-University and Graduation were done in D.M. College of Science, Imphal. He obtained Post-Graduate degree in Anthropology (Social) from the University of Delhi. He was awarded Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Delhi (Anthropology Department). Prior to joining IGNOU, he worked in Indian Social Institute, New Delhi and also as Fellow in Developing Countries Research Centre, University of Delhi.
He has published and co-edited several books. Some of his books include, Nagas’ Right to Self-Determination: An Anthropological-Historical Perspective (2000; 2005-2nd edition); Indo-Naga Conflict: Problem and Resolution (2001); State, Development and Identity in South Asia: A Search for Alternative Paradigms (2002, eds.), Extraordinary Laws in India: A Reader for Understanding Legislations Endangering Civil Liberties (2002, eds.); and Encountering Modernity: Situating the Tangkhul Nagas in Perspective (2014). He has published many research articles in journals and edited books (international and national) and reviewed many books. He has also been editors of a couple of scholarly journals. He has also organized many seminars (international and national). He has to his credit many papers presented in international and national seminars and conferences.
He has contributed in the academic activities of IGNOU from conception and development of courses to coordination and its deliveries. He has to his credit many Ph.D and M.Phil scholars awarded degrees. He has also taken up many responsibilities of the University in various capacities ranging from the University level to School and Faculty levels. He has also actively participated in the teachers’ association of the university and other scholarly associations in various capacities.
