Dr. Manoj Tirkey

Associate Professor

Dr. Manoj Tirkey graduated in B. Com (Hons) from St. Xavier’s College, Calcutta and received his Master’s Degree in Personnel Management & Industrial Relations from Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai. After his post-graduation, he worked in the industrial sector for several years which included his role in Britannia Industries Ltd in the Human Resource Management function. As a HR functionary in a management position, he gained significant experience in the Training & Development functions within the domain of Human Resource Management. He also worked in the Software Sector for a couple of years. Thereafter, he migrated to the academia and studied innovations in the software sector in India and in the process earned his M.Phil. and PhD degrees from the Centre for Studies in Science Policy in the Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. He has also completed a program entitled “Post Graduate Diploma in Distance Education” from IGNOU, New Delhi. He has completed numerous Short-Term Courses in the area of Information & Communication Technology and Education. His research interests include studies on innovations in general and technological innovations in particular. He has a deep interest in emerging technologies in the software sector and the ways in which these technologies are affecting the society, academia and the industry at large. In this endeavour, he has published several research papers in International Journals.

As a practitioner of distance education since 2006, he has gained significant experience in the Open Distance Learning systems. He has a deep understanding of various distance education activities pertaining to the Student Life Cycle of a Distance Learner. He has acquired significant cross-functional knowledge and experience in managing the operations of the distance education system. He has played important roles as a member of important committees in IGNOU and has contributed in formulation of various reports and documents for the university.

As a faculty member of STRIDE, he coordinates and teaches a course on Information & Communication Technology for the PhD Scholars of Distance Education. He also coordinates training programmes for teachers, educators, research scholars and other staff of the academia. He has experience of teaching and counselling IGNOU learners over the mass media like the Gyan Vani FM Radio and the Gyan Darshan TV Channels.
